Words, Thoughts, Music

Uninvited Guest

I have allowed you in my house

You eat my food

Wear my clothes

You’ve been here so long that someone on the outside looking in would have thought you were one of the family.

I have allowed you in my house

You sleep in my bed

Watch my TV

You’ve been here so long that you’ve got all of your belongings up in my guest bedroom as if you intend to stay.

I have allowed you in my house

You use up all my hot water

Talk all day on my phone

You’ve been here so long  that you’ve even got the post office delivering your mail here.

I may have unknowingly invited you in

But from this day forward I uninvite you, so Satan —

Get out of my house.

Pack your white lies and phony smiles

And get out of my house.

Pick up all this bitterness you left in the middle of the floor

And get out of my house.

Take down all the sadness you hung on my walls

And get out of my house.

Pull out all that worry and doubt you left hanging in my closets

And get out of my my house.

You can get your salty envy and peppery jealousy out of my cabinets —

I won’t be needing them anymore

‘Cause Dr. Jesus has me on a strict diet.

And don’t forget that anger you left in the back of my refrigerator —

It’s been there so long

It’s beginning to smell.

Yes, I know I may have unknowingly invited you in

But from this day forward Satan, you are —

An Uninvited Guest.
